Physical and chemical properties: Appearance and characteristics: White to beige crystalline powder with slight smell of sulphur. MMelting point (℃): 78~79℃. Solubility: Water 57.9g/L (25℃), methanol 1000, acetone 730, ethanol 420, isopropanol 200, and toluene 30. It dissolves in hydrocarbons with a minimal quantity. Toxicity: The acute oral LD50 is 50.1~68.1mg/kg in rats; the acute dermal LD50 is more than 2000mg/kg in rats; the acute oral LD50 is 10mg/kg in mice; and the inhalation LC50 is 0.3mg/L in rats. It can cause mild conjunctivitis of rabbit eyes, but has no irritation to rabbit skin. Application: Methomyl was introduced in 1966 as a broad spectrum insecticide.
